Meditation is thought of by many to be a very beneficial technique, but does it really work like therapy? There are some obvious differences between the two techniques and understanding them can help people find the best technique for them. In a sense, the difference between a therapy session and a meditation session is the emphasis on focus and relaxation. In a therapy session, the focus is on the problem or issue. While a therapist may spend several sessions focusing on the problem, they have the same goal: solving the problem.

A person in therapy may focus his attention on a certain area of the body, such as their stomach. They may also try to pinpoint the pain, anxiety, or other symptoms the individual is experiencing. However, when someone meditates, they are focused entirely on themselves. They are focusing on their breathing, their awareness of body parts, and their mental state. This allows a person to focus on their own thoughts and actions rather than the problems or issues that the therapist has identified during the sessions.

Because meditation involves no problem solving, some therapists feel that it is more beneficial than therapy. One therapist said, "If you want to have something done by someone who understands how to do it, you go to a doctor." Another therapist suggested, "It's like going to the chiropractor, because he knows what you need and can get rid of it. If you go to a therapist, you get a diagnosis and medication."

While a therapist may provide an avenue for someone to solve a problem, therapy does not require that person to face the problem directly. Therapy also can lead to a number of side effects, such as depression, and may not work very well for everyone. On the other hand, meditation may be able to provide relief from many of these side effects.

Meditation can also be considered a form of self-help. People often look at the benefits of meditation as if it were something that they could do without. In reality, a number of positive benefits exist, and meditation may be used to help relieve stress and improve overall health. Many of the benefits of meditation are related to the mind and body, including calming the mind and body and relieving anxiety. A person can become more aware of how they respond to various situations, helping them to avoid possible future problems.

In conclusion, it can be said that meditation is often considered more beneficial than therapy. because it provides individuals with a new perspective on how to live their lives and treat stress and anxiety. It may be beneficial for people suffering from the emotional or physical symptoms associated with post traumatic stress disorder or insomnia. It can also be helpful for people seeking to achieve more balance or self-knowledge.
